Duterte unapologetic over ‘stupid God’ remark
President Rodrigo Duterte remained unapologetic on Monday about his “stupid God” remark.
“If I choose not to believe in any God, what’s the “f… thing about it? It’s a freedom to choose one,” Duterte said during the oath-taking of village officials in Cagayan de Oro.
In a speech on June 22, Duterte ranted about God and called him stupid for the concept of “original sin.”
“Who is this stupid God? You created something perfect and then you think of an event that would destroy the quality of your work. How can you rationalize that God? How can you believe him? So now we’re all born with an original sin. Even in the womb, we already have sinned. What kind of religion is that?” he said in his June 22 speech.

The President said his remarks on a “stupid God” was in connection with his frustration with Australian nun Sister Patricia Fox who has criticized his administration.
“Totoo naman (It’s true) and I said that, kung hindi itong mga bobo ‘to, I said that in connection with my statement against Sister Fox,” he said.
“I can take the insult of a garbage collector or a general or a mayor or anybody else’s for that matter. Ang hingin ko lang (What I am going to ask) is that when you do it, you are a Filipino,” he added.
He blasted foreigners for thinking they have the lone “privilege” of insulting us. ”You are citizens, not of my country…You shut up,” the President said.
But a review of the official transcript and video of Duterte’s speech never mentioned Fox.
The President also slammed his critics for calling him out over his “stupid God” remarks.
“Puro lang kayo daldal (You are all just talk)… Sabi ko (I said) you review the tapes. Di ba sinabi ko (I told you), ‘Your god, is not my god because your god is stupid?’” he said.
“Mine has a lot of common sense. Tapos ngayon (Now), why do you have to talk about religion?” he added. /ee
