Makati collision snarls traffic up to Quezon City

At least 14 people were hurt in a smashup involving two buses and a car along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (Edsa) in Magallanes, Makati City, early Tuesday morning.

According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), two buses and a Mitsubishi Mirage collided along the southbound lane of Edsa at 6:11 a.m.

MMDA said that while traveling southbound, a Joyselle Express bus lost its brakes and hit a Valenzuela Transport Service Cooperative bus and the Mirage.

“The Joyselle bus was approaching the loading bay fast, possibly running 50 to 60 km per hour, when it hit both vehicles,” the MMDA said in a report

The two buses swerved to the right and rammed the steel railing near the Magallanes loading bay.

The nine bus passengers were hurt and were rushed to the Pasay General Hospital and Ospital ng Makati.

Other passengers sustained minor injuries.

The southbound section of the highway was clear of obstruction by 10 a.m., the MMDA said.

Earlier, the MMDA advised motorists to take alternative routes after traffic was snarled all the way to the GMA Kamuning area in Quezon City by 8:20 a.m. /cbb
