Retired police general Maganto dies at 70

CITY OF MALOLOS—Retired police general Romeo Maganto died from an ailment on Saturday (June 16), according to a belated report on Monday (June 18). He was 70.

His remains lie in state at his home in Barangay (village) San Pedro in Bustos town.

Bustos municipal government information officer Arnel Tolentino said the remains will be brought to Manila on Tuesday (June 19).

The late general became controversial for his tough stance on crime when he ran the Western Police District in the 1980s. Maganto will be buried on Sunday (June 25) in Manila.

The family expects his son Rommel to fly here from the United States.
