Police protector of drug lord killed in buy-bust operation in Mandaue
A POLICE officer, an alleged protector of a slain drug lord was killed in a buy-bust operation in Mandaue City on Sunday night.
In a press briefing on Monday morning, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde identified the suspect as Senior Insp. Raymond Hortezuela, who protected Jeffrey Diaz alias “Jaguar.”
Initial investigation showed that the poseur buyer bought shabu worth P2,000 from Hortezuela. After the transaction, police were signaled to arrest the suspect who resisted and drew a pistol, which caused an exchange of fire between him and the operatives.
Hortezuela was wounded and brought to Mandaue District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Authorities recovered a pistol, seven empty shells, one transparent plastic with 75 pieces of sachet believed to be shabu, two pieces of P1,000 marked bills, and an alleged stolen blue Honda car.
The suspect is said to be involved in numerous illegal drugs activities in Cebu City.
After the death of DIaz, it was reported that Hortezuela acted as the go-between with remnants of Diaz’s group.
Hortezuela was also alleged to have recycled recovered shabu evidence and was a user.
This is the first death recorded in an operation by the Counterintelligence Task Force (CITF), which was created in February 2017 to arrest police scalawags. ROY NARRA
