Honor eyes top 3 spot in PH smartphone market
Huawei’s Honor is confident to break into the Philippines’ top three smartphone brands, expecting to realize the same growth it enjoys in China market, a top official said.
Honor Chief Executive Officer Wang Yang said with the brand’s aim to capture the large and young population of the Philippines, he was bullish Honor can get a bigger share of the local market.
“[W]e had learned the Philippine market before we came and we have seen that … believe that the Philippine market is the perfect market for Honor brand because we see Honor for young [and the Philippines’]biggest population is young people. We can see the great potential of this market,” he told reporters following the launch of its flagship smartphone, Honor 10.
Honor is also banking on the rising internet penetration among Filipinos, he added. “I believe the internet is also changing the people’s life. So as we designed for the digital natives, we believe our products will have a very good potential in the Philippine market.”
Despite the tight competition and the fact that it was only established in 2013, Yang boasted Honor has found its way at the top, securing the fifth rank with more than 10 percent market share in China.
For the local scene, the ranking official was optimistic it could compete with other Chinese smartphone brands and push its way up to top three.
To further bolster its presence in the country, Yang noted the group is planning to open Honor’s own concept stores in the country. The timeline for this has yet to be disclosed.
It was late in April when Honor partnered with e-commerce firm Shopee to tap the big chunk of the Filipino millennial market.
The Honor 10 sports an advance AI (artifical intelligence) 2.0 technology for its camera, touts a northern lights-inspired design and is powered by an independently built-in NPU processor.
It will be available for online purchase on June 6.
