Village councilor nabbed in Oriental Mindoro buy-bust

CITY OF CALAPAN –  A village councilor was arrested in a buy-bust operation Saturday morning in Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro province.

Modesto Leynes, 50, councilor at Barangay (village) San Vicente South, was arrested by members of the Oriental Mindoro police and drug enforcement agencies of Calapan and Mimaropa around 9:30 a.m. during a buy-bust operation, a police report said.

Police, who considered Leynes a high-value target, confiscated four pieces of plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance suspected to be “shabu” (crystal meth) and P1,000 marked money.

Records show that the suspect had previously surrendered in the government’s anti-drug drive but returned to his illegal activities. MADONNA T. VIROLA
