‘Domeng’ triggers flash floods in Luzon

Tropical Depression “Domeng” triggered flash floods in some areas in Luzon, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

As of 8. a.m. Saturday, flash floods, a collapsed riprap, an overflowing spillway, and a plane mishap were reported in the regions of Caraga, Mimaropa, and Calabarzon.

Flash flooods were recorded in Barangay Hanagdong and Barang Tinago in Malimono tow, Surigao del Norte on June 5.

A temporary bridge was washed out in Calintaan town, Occidental Mindoro on June 6.

In Rodriguez town, Rizal province, a riprap collapsed in Barangay Burgos because of the downpour brought by “Domeng.” Six families were affected by the incident.

In Sta. Cruz, Occidental Mindoro, the Pola Spillway overflowed on June 8, making it not passable to all types of vehicles.

Meanwhile, a Skyjet commercial aircraft from Manila overshot the runway at Francisco B. Reyes Airport in Coron, Palawan at 4:40 p.m. on June 8.

Two passengers and a crew were injured.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council also reported that 72 passengers, two vessels, and three motorbancas were stranded in Legazpi and Rapu-rapu ports due to bad weather.

As of 3 a.m. today, “Domeng” was located at 505 km east of Basco, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 80 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 95 km/h.

It is forecast to move North Northeast at 17 km/h.

Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Calabarson, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and provinces of Bataan and Zambalaes will continue to be lashed by monsoon rains caused “Domeng.” ROY NARRA
