1 dead, 1 hurt in Zamboanga City after quarrel on NBA game
ZAMBOANGA CITY – A discussion on the result of the recent basketball game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors (GSW) turned violent for three cousins in Barangay San Roque here.
Marvin Jordan Macotocruz, 25; Henry Bello Macapili, 28; and Renevie Rose Macapili, 18, were drinking as they discussed the result of the National Basketball Association (NBA) game, in which GSW won by eight points against the Cavaliers by scoring 110.
The discussion soon became heated, according to Senior Supt. Allan Nazarro, city police director.
Nazarro said Macotocruz grabbed a kitchen knife at the height of the heated discussion and stabbed Henry and Renevie.
Henry suffered a stab wound in his stomach while Renevie suffered knife wounds on her left thigh and left palm.
Nazarro said Henry died on arrival at the Zamboanga City Medical Center, where Renevie was also being treated.
He said Macotocruz had been arrested and was being detained at the Zamboanga City Police Station 7 holding cell.
Nazarro said charges would be filed against Macotocruz. JULIE ALIPALA
