CEBU CITY – From 2003-2017, the province of Cebu has the third most number of cyberpornography cases in the country.
Regional State Prosecutor Fernando Gubalane revealed in a press briefing last Friday that in the last 14 years, Region 7 recorded 357 cyberporn cases that involved 1,012 victims and 325 suspects.
The National Capital Region (NCR) topped the list with 991 cases followed by Region 3 with 387. From 2011-2018, at least 99 victims were rescued in Cebu for Online Sexual Exploitation of Children (OSEC) and more than half the victims were 12 years old below, said lawyer John Tanagho, director of the International Justice Mission (IJM).
“There are approximately 54 victims who are 12 years old and below and there are 32 victims who 12 years old and 13 adults who were rescued for having been abused.
93 percent of the victims are girls and seven percent are boys,” said Tanagho. Cyberporn activities have been discovered in various places in Cebu such as in the cities of Cebu, Bogo, Mandaue and Lapu-lapu as well as in the towns of Cordova, Talisay and San Fernando, said Cebu vice governor Agnes Magpale.
