Landslides stall 100 motorists

BAGUMBAYAN, Sultan Kudarat – Landslides triggered by heavy rains blocked on Monday the national highway here which caused traffic congestion to more than 100 motorists passing the mountainous highway connecting the towns Bagumbayan and Senator Ninoy Aquino.
Municipal disaster risk reduction management officer Sofia Fetalino said the landslides covered some 150-meter stretch of the national highway in Barangay Chua, here early morning Monday.
She said some 100 motorists plying the national highway connecting the capital town of Isulan and Senator Ninoy Aquino were stranded following the blockade of landslides on the national highway which serves as a major trading route leading to the capital town here.
Local disaster officials and personnel from Department of Public Works and Highways were deployed in the affected area to immediately clear the highway of debris.
Fetalino said the highway became passable to motorists later in the afternoon. She said the area is frequented by landslides during heavy rains.
