RBC Top 25 Mina Mawani heads up Gutsy Walk this Sunday
Canadians are being diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis at startling rates, and this weekend Crohn’s and Colitis Canada is hosting its 23rd annual Gutsy Walk on Sunday, June 3, to fundraise for research, programming and advocacy.
“I will be joining over 23,000 Canadians from across the country walking in Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s 23rd annual Gutsy Walk on Sunday,” says Mina Mawani, president and CEO of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, and an RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant (2016).
“I’ve committed to fundraising $17,500.00 CAD to help Crohn’s and Colitis Canada improve the lives of Canadians living with Crohn’s or colitis by investing in world-class research, providing patient programs, advocating for patients and generating awareness,” she adds.
Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are diseases that inflame the lining of the gastrointestinal tract, disrupting your body’s ability to digest food, absorb nutrition and eliminate waste in a healthy manner. As a result, you might have the following symptoms: abdominal pain, cramping, gas, bloating, fatigue, diarrhea (possibly bloody) and loss of appetite. Canada has among the highest rates in the world, and incidence of Crohn’s disease has almost doubled in Canadian children under 10 since 1995.
